Default String/Integer to PChar?

Hi,

I am new to Delphi. I am trying to concatenate PChar item

but I found it confusing. The following example gives error

of incompatibility:

--------------------------------------

var *D, Total: PChar;

begin

* Total:= D + Edit1.text;

* *// Error! Incompatible type

* *// *'string' and 'PChar'

--------------------------------------

Is there a way to convert string or integer to PChar?

Please help.

Thank you for your kind assistance.

Regards,

Mary.
