Default Playing video in mediaplayer

Hi

I want to play video- files with mediaplayer using whatever as a display and i can't make it work.

my code:
mediaplayer.close;
if opendialog.execute then
mediaplayer.filename:=opendialog.filename;
mediaplayer.devicetype:=dtdigitalvideo;
mediaplayer.open;
mediaplayer.play;

now it opens a new window but it's only a black window. What do i do wrong ?

The file is an mpeg and works fine in windows mediaplayer. Do I have to install the codec especially for delphi?

Sorry my fingers type too fast some times. I meant "cretin". As for the problem, there are new versions of AVIs out that are using new compression techniques that your current media driver may not support. Have you tried updating you windows media player yet?

what about the most basic question:
Those files (avi's mpeg's) that do not play -> DO they play if you open with media player (i.e. doubleclick them in explorer) ????

If some play and others don't it's not a problem with your own programming, rather than windows media itself !

they all play in windows mediaplayer...

I have the codec installed on my computer but delphi won't play anyway.

And correction: no avi's and mpeg's play just wma's although i have devicetype:=dtautoselect or what the name was...

then it seems your WMP component only plays media streams, and not media files... (wma and asf are streams)
and at this point i'm at a loss - sorry
(mine works fine)
